We have all seen killer gig posters. I was lured into many a venue to see a band I had never heard before due to the visual marvel pasted up on the street lamp. Concert posters are an integral part of our pop design experience and stand on their own as important cultural works of art.
Movie posters–not so much. Drably uniform and lackadaisical, the movie poster seems to be a snore-fest that simply serves a banal and necessary function. Maybe finding one image to convey and entire film is way more difficult than finding an image to represent a band or a one night show. If that was true, we wouldn’t have amazing fan generated movie posters that demonstrate that the movies are fertile ground for spectacular and inventive displays of poster art. For your approval– visual testimony of this fact; horror genre of course.
